At Homefield School we feel that it is of the utmost importance that children are aware of those less fortunate than themselves and are encouraged to help others in the community. Consequently the children take part in a very wide range of charitable fund-raising activities. Charities to be supported are chosen on a yearly basis by the Student Council and we also contribute to international emergency appeals.
The Junior Department raises money for the Guide Dogs for the Blind charity as a long term commitment.
Activities include dressing up days, discos and sponsored walks and children are encouraged to think of and run their own charitable events. The boys also perform for a variety of charitable institutions such as The Star and Garter Home and the Children’s Hospital Trust in Tadworth. Recently, as part of the HelpLanka initiative, Homefield School has become the sister school to a school in Sri Lanka, St Antony’s College Panadura.

We are also aware of our charitable status and responsibilities and make our sports hall available to local sports organisation such as the local football and cricket clubs. We also make our school premises available to chess organisations and help in the running of local, county and national chess competitions.
We are aware of some inconvenience caused for residents living beside a busy school and try to keep disruption to a minimum. We have adopted a Green Travel plan, in which we encourage our parents to park away from school. We also have a “Home and Away” club which encompasses a Breakfast and After-school club, in order to help parents with childcare difficulties but also to minimise the impact of dropping and collecting traffic. To help with traffic congestion, minibus transport is also available, mornings and afternoons. Finally we run a lift share scheme.
We extend invitations to the neighbouring residents to many of our social events such as the Fireworks party or the Christmas fair. Local school children and elderly residents are also invited to attend school performances.
We hold a “Drop in Day” which local residents, as well as our parents are invited to attend. We perform concerts in local churches and at such venues at the Star and Garter Home and at the Children’s Hospital, Tadworth.
Whenever suitable, we take part in local events, such as the Sutton Music Festival. |
